About SNAG - Who we are
SNAG was formed shortly after the HS2 proposal was announced in March 2010. We are a group of local residents who are seeking to represent the interests of those who live and work in the area and are opposed to the current proposals for HS2. Links with local community groups have been formed to understand the local concerns and provide information and support as the implications of the HS2 project become clear. SNAG also actively supports several large groups that have been formed to cover the whole route. These provide a coordinated challenge to the proposal and organise large-scale protests to raise public awareness.
We strongly believe the Government must be challenged on the fundamental business and environmental cases and we recognise the outstanding work done by HS2Action Alliance to demonstrate that there is no justification for HS2 in its current form. However, we must also recognise that the Government might simply steamroler its proposals through. If that happens, we will fight to minimise the impact on this area and help residents achieve appropriate compensation. We have already begun to engage the county and district councils to recognise the likely hardship and encourage them to start the necessary work to support their residents in a timely manner.
